Gifts for guys: a tutorial

Buying or making gifts for guys has always been a challenge. I have bought my brothers books, my dad a running watch or train memorabilia. One year, everyone received hand-knitted scarves; another Christmas, I gave pajama bottoms to the dudes (Old Navy loved me that year). But while women seem like a breeze to make something for, guys present a dilemma. They have everything already or it's questionable that they'll like what you create.

CraftStylish has loads of great ideas; this week, the site is running a gift guide of tutorials for all the boys to men in your life. I kick things off today with a tutorial on "shoe submarines," small inserts that he can slip into his stinky shoes to absorb moisture and odor. It's a great stocking stuffer for the gym rat or running enthusiast.

Come to think of it, it's just the thing for my running fool of a father...

For those, the guys, who can read, and don't mind it, and have been forbidden to read your books, I recommend Mil Millington. It's free, to start, online. But his work has other values too.

In case, just in case, you haven't come across him (and I searched for his name and yours together, with no hits, so I can't tell), then I recommend starting with the single, long web page "Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About" (http://www.mil-millington.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/things.html). If you know the right kind of guy, then this will be good for him.

If not, then it might be agreeable to you. Maybe and maybe not. Too bad there isn't a version from his girlfriend's point of view, but then maybe that's in the book version. The protagonist in "A Certain Chemistry" (male) does get whacked up pretty well by the two women (deservedly) if that counts.

Meanwhile, I've started "Backcountry Betty" and would like to see more of your work. Smooth. Good job.

Keep Mil in mind for a spare moment or a spare friend.
