Shui to go

I've been a feng shui fool lately. Ever since Sandra (an amazing event planner, seamstress, and busines woman) came over, eyeballed my home, and plotted out my bagwa (the weird illustration at right), I've been moving things around, chucking crap that is harshing my chi, and shifting energy. I put a purple orchid in my prosperity corner (the bathroom, which explains a LOT), I painted a mirror red for my bedroom (and use dry erase markers to write mantras on it), and have relocated the booze from my love and relationships corner (again, certain things make sense now)

I'm even burning incense.

I feel the change working. I'm caring for myself, I'm bringing intention to my life. I don't know if the red tape around the pipes in my bathroom are working, but I know that every time I put the toilet lid down, I think about prosperity. And new business and personal opportunities are making my head swim.

I can't wait to see what the universe and future are going to bless me with next.

Have you ever tried feng shui? I highly recommend Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life by Karen Rauch Carter. It's a very practical, non-woo woo approach to feng shui.

MRI? Let's get one!

As a few of you know, I've been experiencing weird spots in front of my eyes for nearly a week (let's call it an "aura"), which I finally realized aren't part of a low-grade migraine. After getting checked out my by G.P. and an opthamologist on Friday evening, I had to get an MRI this morning.

This sucked dead bear.

I wasn't claustro or anything but I wasn't able to turn it into a spa experience (which I always attempt to do).

The good thing was that, in the way Carilyn took care of me on Friday night (thanks, lady!), Jessica kept me giggling today. We have been doing "Kelly" impressions all weekend (if you haven't seen Liam Sullivan's shoes video on YouTube, check it out NOW), so it was only natural that, when walking through the basement of Swedish Hospital on a quiet Father's Day morning, we started joking around about the procedure (it beats thinking that I had a mini-stroke). So I really cracked up when Jessica said, "MRI? Let's GET one!" and I responded "This MRI is three thousand dollars. Let's GET it!"

You'll understand why this is funny when you see the video.

Jessica had the bright idea to go to House of Hong afterwards for dim sum. I think my fortune (see the photo above) is right on the money. It definitely knew what I wanted to hear.

The power of persuasion

Sigh. I just saw the Book-It Repertory Theater's adaption of Jane Austen's Persuasion and it was downright dreamy. Book-It adapts the novel for the stage, so you get actors reciting a character's inner turmoil or non-dialogue-driven details. It was yum, a bon-bon of a production. The humor, heartache, and longing came through loud and clear. If you are in Seattle, check it out. It runs through March 2.

In other news, I have lost my mind. I am apparently more anxious about the surgery I'm having Monday that I had thought. I left the house today and was several blocks away before I noticed I had on two different shoes. Luckily, I had another pair with me that I was taking to the Shoe Nazi in Ballard for some resole action. That is the first time in my life that I've ever done that. How gauche!

Drinking it in

After almost 20 years of drinking two cans a day, I gave up Diet Coke the day before Thanksgiving (an endoscopy revealed eroded areas on my esophogus and stomach, which I don't think the pop was helping). I'm not even craving it all that much and I'm really proud of myself for letting go of this signature vice.

However, in the last week, I've started guzzling Crystal Light iced tea. Is this any healthier? Yeah, no caffeine or carbonation is going down the gullet but oh, the aspartame, the sweet, delicious aspartame!
